Our founder and chief executive Bert Meijer was almost born into the industry. He sailed competitively from an early age and spent all his spare time boating.

After completing his technical management education at the IVA in Driebergen, Holland ,Bert commenced his working life in the sales department of one of the biggest yacht builders in Holland. Very quickly Bert showed his business acumen by opening up the fast developing East European and Russian markets for his employer. Bert also realised that these new markets required a different approach and demanded a high level of service and fast delivery times.

The fact that Bert speaks Russian to an acceptable level proved to be a major advantage for his past employer in the development of these new and valuable markets.

Having spent nine years learning every detail of the luxury yacht industry, Bert decided to establish his own company "Yachts around the World" having realised the demand for an independent consultancy company specialising in sourcing new and used luxury boats.
